[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8855, August 22, 2000 ]

AN ACT CONVERTING THE BATANES NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BASCO, PROVINCE OF BATANES, INTO A SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL TO BE KNOWN AS THE BATANES NATIONAL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

Section 1. The Batanes National High School in Basco, Batanes, is hereby converted into a science high school to be known as the Batanes National Science High School under the supervision of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

Section 2. The purpose of the said conversion shall be to offer a secondary course with the special emphasis on subjects pertaining to the sciences.

Section 3. All legacies, gifts and donations for the benefit of the said high school or for its support and maintenance, or aid to any of its students, shall be tax exempt and shall be allowed deductions from the gross income of the donors.

Section 4. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports shall prescribe the curricula and issue the rules and regulations necessary for the conversion of the Batanes National High School into a science high school.

Section 5. The Batanes National Science High School shall start to offer science and technology subjects in the school year immediately following the approval of this Act.

Section 6. All personnel, assets, liabilities and records of the Batanes National High School are hereby transferred to and absorbed by the Batanes National Science High School.

Section 7. The amount necessary for the implementation of this Act shall be charged against the current year's appropriations of the Batanes National High School.ℒαwρhi৷ Thereafter, such sums as may be necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Batanes National Science High School shall be included in the General Appropriations Act.

Section 8. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
