[ Proclamation No. 1924, October 23, 2009 ]

DECLARING NOVEMBER 2009 AS PHILIPPINES-INDIA FRIENDSHIP MONTH

WHEREAS, the 1952 Treaty of Friendship signed by the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India stated that “there shall be perpetual peace and everlasting amity between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India and their peoples.”

WHEREAS, the Philippines and India share common goals for a dynamic, peaceful and prosperous future for Asia;

WHEREAS, 2009 is a most fitting time to celebrate and commemorate the diplomatic relations of the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India that officially began on November 16, 1949;

WHEREAS, the 60th Anniversary of Philippines-India relations merits appropriate observance and official commemoration;

NOW THEREFORE, I, GLORIA-MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare November 2009 as Philippines-India Friendship Month.

The following agencies are designated to undertake activities throughout the month of November 2009 to commemorate the Philippines and Indias 60 years of strong partnership and diplomatic relations with the support and participation of government agencies, local government units and non­governmental organizations:

– Department of Foreign Affairs (lead and coordinating agency)

– Department of Tourism

– Department of Science and Technology (Philippine Nuclear Research Institute)

– National Commission for Culture and the Arts

– Philippine Postal Corporation

– University of the Philippines

– City Government of Manila

The above agencies are hereby authorized to create the appropriate committees/task forces; promulgate such guidelines as may be necessary in the execution of the proclamation; and allocate the necessary funds for the programs, ceremonies and activities of this event.

This proclamation shall take effect immediately.1aшphi1
