DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 21 TO MAY 1, 2009, AS “INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION WEEK”

WHEREAS, the International Labour Organization (ILO) will observe its 90th anniversary in 2009, while the Universal Declaration of Philadelphia, a vital annex to the ILO Constitution, its 65th anniversary;

WHEREAS, the Philippines as an active member of the ILO since 1948, wishes to enhance its commitment to pursue the ideals and principles of the ILO;

WHEREAS, The Republic of the Philippines, through the ILOs social partners (the Government Employers and Workers Organizations), reaffirms its full support and cooperation with the ILOs mandate of promoting international peace and social justice;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from April 21 to May 1, 2009, as “International Labour Organization Week”.

For this purpose, I call upon the Secretary of Labor and Employment to spearhead and coordinate the activities nationwide to celebrate “International Labour Organization Week” in close cooperation with the Employers and Workers organizations.

I call upon all Heads of Departments, Bureaus, Offices, Agencies, and Instrumentalities of the Government, specifically those involved in ILO projects, non-government organizations, and the private sector to actively lead the events and programs to commemorate the “International Labour Organization Week”.

I call upon the Secretary of Education to instruct all schools nationwide, especially elementary and high school, to conduct their own ILO awareness activities, particularly during the celebration of this event.1aшphi1

I call upon the Office of the Press Secretary, members of mass media, cultural, and civic institutions to actively support and play a leading role in the campaign to foster ILO awareness in the Philippines.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed hereto.
