MALACAÑAN PALACE MANILA BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES [ Proclamation No. 1265, March 28, 2007 ] DECLARING JULY 3-9, 2007 AS “ASIAN JUNIORS WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK” IN THE PHILIPPINE SPORTS CALENDAR WHEREAS, Section 19 (1) Article XIV of the 1987 Constitution provides that the State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry; WHEREAS, sports events held within the country give multiple benefits to the Philippines in terms of tourism revenues, valuable sports exposure to the athletes, exciting entertainment to the general public, exposure and a positive image of the country to international audience; WHEREAS, the Philippines was awarded the privilege to host the prestigious Asian Juniors Wrestling Championship on July 04 to 09, 2007 wherein thirty-three (33) countries will participate and compete in several wrestling events such as Greeco-Roman, Freestyle, and Female Freestyle categories; WHEREAS, the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee (AAWC) Congress will likewise be held coincidentally with the said Championship, wherein representatives of the Wrestling International Federation-FILA, as well as representatives of each participating country will attend; WHEREAS, this international event is unquestionably advantageous to our athletes, Philippine sports and Philippine tourism, and therefore should be encouraged and supported by all sectors of society; NOW THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare July 3-9, 2007 as the Asian Juniors Wrestling Championship Week in the Philippine sports and tourism calendars. All departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the national government, government owned and controlled corporations, government financial institutions, local government units, particularly the Department of Tourism and attached agencies, the Philippine Sports Commission, DFA, DPWH, OPS (NBN 4 & PBS), DOF, PCSO, PAGCOR, MMDA and the City of Manila, and entire citizenry are hereby enjoined to give their full support, provision, cooperation and collaboration to the activities leading to and coinciding with the herein event. The private sector support, provision, and collaboration is strongly encouraged to afford the maximum exposure to the bigger and active Asian market and help give positive image of the Philippines as a sports mecca as well as a business and investment friendly country, and to insure the success of the event.1aшphi1 IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
