[ Proclamation No. 208, November 9, 1999 ]

DECLARING DECEMBER 1, 1999, AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “ARAW NG KAGITINGAN AT KATAPANGAN SA TIPAS”

WHEREAS, the three-year Japanese occupation of our country from 1943 to 1945 had caused untold sufferings and misery to the whole nation;

WHEREAS, the town of Taguig, Metro Manila had not been spared from the excess of the occupation forces;

WHEREAS, Barangay Tipas specifically gave up in sacrifice several thousand residents during a “zoning” operation by the Japanese to flush out the freedom fighters in this particular area;

WHEREAS, on the dawn of December 1, 1943, almost all males in Tipas were captured, tortured and killed by the members of the Japanese Imperial Army;

WHEREAS, the Tipas Veterans Association has deemed it proper to honor these unsung heroes of Tipas who paid the supreme sacrifice in the name of freedom and libertarian ideals.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare December 1, 1999 and every year thereafter as “Araw ng Kagitingan at Katapangan sa Tipas”. The day however, shall be a regular working and school day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
