DECLARING MAY 27 OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL DAY TO COMMEMORATE AND PROPAGATE THE BAYANIHAN SPIRIT AS THE UNIQUE FILIPINO WAY OF WORKING TOGETHER AS A PEOPLE
WHEREAS, Bayanihan as an ancient Filipino folk virtue and way of doing things together is a proven concept that would be a valuable tool for national cooperation for progress and development if properly commemorated and propagated;
WHEREAS, this inspiring virtue of Bayanihan was first successfully demonstrated to the world on May 27, 1958, when the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company performed and attained global fame and recognition for the country at the 1958 Brussels World fair, the performance itself a triumph of the Bayanihan spirit with artists, students, parents, university, businessmen and government working together in true Bayanihan tradition to put a cultural presentation on the international stage;
WHEREAS, this international triumphant day would be an appropriate occasion for constantly re-kindling, and propagating the Bayanihan spirit among our people in our quest for national unity, progress, peace and prosperity.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare May 27 of every year as National Bayanihan Day to commemorate the Bayanihan spirit and spur its continuous propagation and adoption as the Filipino way of working together to attain common goals of unity, progress, peace and prosperity. The Bayanihan Folk Arts Foundation is hereby designated as the civil society implementing entity for this annual commemoration in coordination with the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company, the designated national folk dance company by virtue of Republic Act No. 8626, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, through a national, educational program and schedule of activities that would attain the objectives of the commemoration.1aшphi1
