DECLARING 13-19 JUNE 1999 AS “PHILIPPINES-THAILAND FRIENDSHIP WEEK”

WHEREAS, Monday, 14, June 1999, marks the onset of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand;

WHEREAS, H.E. Chuan Leekpai, Prime Minister of Thailand, is making an official visit to the Philippines on 13-15 June 1999;

WHEREAS, Philippine relations with Thailand are among the oldest and most fruitful in Philippine History;

WHEREAS, Thailand ranks as one of the major trading partners of the Philippines and hosts an estimate five thousand Filipinos;

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the people of the Republic of the Philippines be given full opportunity to appreciate and commemorate the golden jubilee of Philippines-Thailand diplomatic relations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law do hereby declare 13-19 June 1999 as “Philippines-Thailand Friendship Week”.
