AUTHORIZING THE UNITED STATES ARMY FORCES IN THE PHILIPPINES – NORTHERN LUZON (USAFIP-NL) VETERANS AND HEIRS FOUNDATION, INC. TO CONDUCT A FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN UP TO 14 JUNE 2001

WHEREAS, among the well-known Filipino Guerrilla organizations during World War II, the United States Army Forces in the Philippines – North Luzon (USAFIP NL) is credited for various military operations in the eight provinces of Northern Luzon and was recognized for the surrender of General Tomoyuki Yamashita, Commander of the 14th Japanese Imperial Army in the Philippines, on September 2, 1945;

WHEREAS, the valor, gallantry, and heroism of the men and women from the eight provinces of Northern Luzon who fought and died in the last war have to be honored in a fitting monument for the younger generation of Filipinos to remember and emulate;

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 590, series of 1995, declared a parcel of land of the public domain in Luna, La Union, as the site for the National USAFIP-NL Military Shrine and Park; and,

WHEREAS, there is a need to raise funds for the construction and maintenance of the National Military Shrine.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law do hereby authorize the USAFIP-NL Veterans and Heirs Foundation, Inc. to raise funds for the construction and maintenance of the USAFIP-NL Military Shrine until 14 June 2001.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
