[ Proclamation No. 730, July 27, 1970 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM AUGUST 2 TO 8, 1970, AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS LAND REFORM WEEK.

WHEREAS, land is a God-given gift which should be shared by all people, and not by a few;

WHEREAS, the enactment of the Land Reform Code is a great stride in breaking the inequitable system of land-holding in the Philippines and promises to unshackle the Filipino farmer from feudal oppression, poverty and ignorance and to give him dignity and economic freedom; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable to focus attention on the occasion and to stimulate greater awareness of and involvement in the urgency of land reform to solve the seething social unrest;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from August 2 to 8, 1970, and every year thereafter, as Land Reform Week. I call upon all government entities and instrumentalities, as well as private organizations and individuals involved in land reform, to join in the proper observance of the Week to make it truly meaningful.
