AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINES INTERNATIONAL FAIR, INC., TO HOLD AN INTERNATIONAL FAIR IN THE SUNKEN GARDENS SURROUNDED BY VICTORIA, P. BURGOS, ANDA, AND MURALLA STREETS, CITY OF MANILA, PHILIPPINES, FROM FEBRUARY 1 TO MARCH 31, 1961, IN CELEBRATION OF RIZAL’S CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY IN 1961 WHICH HAS BEEN DECLARED AS JOSE RIZAL YEAR WITH THE SLOGAN “VISIT THE PHILIPPINES—SEE THE ORIENT”

WHEREAS, the Philippines will celebrate in 1961 the centennial anniversary of the birthday of our foremost national hero, for which purpose 1961 has been declared under Proclamation No. 715 dated October 27, 1960, as Jose Rizal Year with the slogan “Visit the Philippines—See the Orient”;

WHEREAS, the observance of the first centenery of our national hero’s birthday with the slogan “Visit the Philippines—See the Orient” is a proper occasion for the Philippines to acquaint the other countries of the world with the contributions the country has made to civilization and humanity’s progress and an opportunity for the Philippines to give impetus to the maximum development of her tourist industry;

WHEREAS, as an important feature of the aforesaid celebration, an international fair will be held from February 1 to March 31, 1961, at the Sunken Gardens, City of Manila, under the auspices of the Philippines International Fair, Inc.;

WHEREAS, the 1961 Philippines International Fair is intended to give emphasis to the display of distinctive arts and crafts of the Philippines and those of other countries which have been invited to participate in said international fair; and

WHEREAS, the successful holding of the 1961 Philippines International Fair will undoubtedly strengthen the ties of friendship between the Philippines and each of the countries participating therein and enhance the former’s prestige abroad;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippines International Fair, Inc., to hold an international fair in the Sunken Gardens, City of Manila, from February 1 to March 31, 1961. I also enjoin all departments, bureaus, and offices of the National Government, the corporations owned or controlled by the Government, and the provincial, city, and municipal governments to participate in the said international fair, and, I call on all civic, educational, and business groups to extend their help and cooperation to make the 1961 Philippines International Fair a success.
