[ Proclamation No. 721, November 18, 1960 ]

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP, AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 15, 1960 TO FEBRUARY 28, 1961

WHEREAS, cancer being one of the most dreaded killer-diseases in the Philippines today, its prevention and control are matters of immediate and common concern;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., has successfully, pioneered and spearheaded the move towards pretention and control of cancer through the work and activities of its Detection and Diagnostic Center which has already served free more than 8,000 patients since the organization of the Society three years ago;

WHEREAS, the progress which the Society has achieved in the pursuit of its objectives is also the result of its statistical research program combined with its efforts to disseminate information on the disease, particularly its prevention and control; and

WHEREAS, the Society, conscious of the need to continue to render its free medical services to the public as shown by a tremendous increase in the number of patients flocking daily to the Center, has decided to carry on its work and to expand its activities to reach other parts of country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., to conduct a national educational, membership, and fund campaign from December 15, 1960, to February 28, 1961. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race, or creed, to assist in this humanitarian campaign by giving generously of their means so that it may be a complete success. I also authorize and call on all national, provincial, city, and municipal government officials, and employees to extend full and Unconditional cooperation to make this campaign a success.1aшphi1
