AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP, AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 16, 1959, TO FEBRUARY 28, 1960

WHEREAS, cancer being one of the most dreaded killer-diseases in the Philippines today, its prevention and control are matters of immediate and common concern;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society has successfully pioneered and spearheaded the move towards prevention and control through the work and activities of its diagnostic and detection center which has already served free more than 5,000 patients since the organization of the Society two years ago;

WHEREAS, the progress which the Society has achieved in the pursuit of its objectives is also the result of its statistical research program combined with its efforts to disseminate information on the disease, particularly its prevention and control; and

WHEREAS, the Society desirous of expanding in order to meet fully the public demand for its free medical services as attested by an increase in the number of patients flocking daily to the Center, thus resulting in overflow of traffic in its clinic, has decided to start the construction of its unfinished right wing which had been put off owing to lack of funds;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CARLOS P. GARCIA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippine Cancer Society to conduct a national educational, membership, and fund campaign from December 16, 1959 to February 28, 1960. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race, or creed, to assist in this humanitarian campaign by giving generously of their means so that it may be a complete success. I also authorize and call on all national, provincial, city, and municipal government officials and employees to extend full and unconditional cooperation to make this campaign a success.1aшphi1
