[ ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO. 235, August 25, 1970 ]

PROHIBITING THE WOUNDING, TAKING, SELLING, EXCHANGING AND/OR EXPORTING, POSSESSING AND KILLING OF THE PITHECOPHAGA JEFFERYI, COMMONLY KNOWN AS MONKEY-EATING EAGLE

WHEREAS, the Pithecophaga jefferyi, commonly known as Monkey-eating Eagle, is a rare indigenous species found only in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the Monkey-eating Eagle is fast vanishing from its known habitats in the wilderness of north-eastern Luzon and in the Island of Mindanao;

WHEREAS, this rare species of Philippine eagle is part and parcel of our country’s heritage and its preservation is a matter of national concern;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby prohibit the wounding, taking, selling, exchanging and/or exporting, possessing and killing of the Pithecophaga jefferyi, commonly known as Monkey-eating Eagle.£A⩊phi£

Any person found violating this Order shall be punished in accordance with the provisions of Act No. 2590, as amended.

Done in the City of Manila, this 25th day of August, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and seventy.
